After some time in Scotland, we headed down to London. We took the train, which wasn’t nearly as quick as flying had been, but, it also wasn’t inconvenient. They fed us, gave us free drinks, and made us as comfortable as one can be for 4 hours.
Outside the train station, the obligatory curry, and of course, the tube stop next to our hotel. (We stayed at the same hotel this trip, that we stayed at last year. Simply because it was convenient and we knew where it was.)
Changing of the Guard
Everybody should see this once. IT doesn’t disappoint. I was quite surprised to learn, that some of these uniforms, cost in excess of $50,000. I am not sure exactly what makes them that expensive, but it’s apparently quite an honor to wear one. Most people, don’t realize that Prince Charles and Camilla, (Now His royal highness, King Charles) actually did not live at Buckingham Palace. He lives in Clarence House, next door. Buckingham Palace, is being renovated, and has been for quite some time.
High Tea at Fortnum & Mason
I’ve eluded to this place in another travel entry. It’s all that and a bag of chips, but it is expensive. In USD, it was about $200 for the two of us. The food is good. We chose the savory, as opposed to the sweets this time. They brought towers for both of us.
Other pretentious shopping…
After a couple pints at a local pub, we headed over to Harrod’s. Yes, you can buy Tiaria and £1000 writing implements there. Astounding place. I’ve literally never seen anything quite like it.
Dinner with Friends
Julia and I have been friends for damn near 30 years. She now lives in England, and came to the city to meet us for dinner, with her husband Barry. First time we’d seen one another since she moved over about 20+ years ago. My wife finally believes, I really do know people everywhere.
